About MMD Maisons Marques & Domaines USA Inc. was founded in 1987 as the U.S. sales and marketing arm for Champagne Louis Roederer and its California winery, Roederer Estate.
Today, the company has grown into a well-respected niche-marketer and importer of family-owned, prestigious producers. From France to Portugal, from California to South Africa; Maisons Marques & Domaines represents some of the most highly esteemed properties in the world.
Several of the wineries represented by Maisons Marques & Domaines (MMD USA) are owned by the House of Louis Roederer, including Roederer Estate, Scharffenberger Cellars, Porto Adriano Ramos-Pinto, Champagne Deutz, Delas Fr?res, and the Bordeaux properties of Ch?teau de Pez, Ch?teau Haut-Beaus?jour and Domaines Ott. Others, such as a selection of the Ch?teaux from Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, the wines of Dominus and Napanook in Napa Valley, Ch?teau Loudenne, Baron de Ladoucette, Domaines Schlumberger, Agricola Querciabella and Pio Cesare of Italy, Meerlust and Distell wines of South Africa and Maisons Marques & Domaines own proprietary Carpe Diem wines from the Edna Valley, are represented in the U.S. on an exclusive basis.
In addition, Maisons Marques & Domaines has entered into a preferred partnership with Ch?teau Cos dEstournel and Ch?teau Hosanna on a non-exclusive basis.
In spite of its growth, Maisons Marques & Domaines has retained the spirit of a small, hands-on company with a very dedicated team. It has built long-lasting, mutually rewarding alliances with key distributors in each U.S. market, based on personal commitment and entrepreneurship.
As the wine industry continues to evolve in the U.S., MMD USA intends to remain an outstanding and distinctive ambassador of the wineries it represents.
OWNERSHIP Jean-Claude Rouzaud, Chairman of the Board, Champagne Louis Roederer Group Jean-Claude Rouzaud has guided the House of Champagne Louis Roederer since 1979, when he became president at the age of 37. He succeeded his grandmother, Madame Olry-Roederer, who had dedicated more than 40 years to building the worldwide reputation of Louis Roederer champagnes.
Faithful to the family tradition, Jean-Claude showed an early and keen interest in enology and viticulture. Upon completing secondary school in Paris, he decided to master the two subjects he holds dearest. He earned his National Diploma of Enology in 1966 and spent an additional year studying viticulture.
Creation of world-renowned champagnes requires more than technique. The art of winemaking strives for a perfect balance between technique and intuitive talent. The same philosophy holds true for managing the destiny of such a creative enterprise. Jean-Claude balances his passion for his wines with rigorous attention to every phase of Roederer corporate management.
His two-year search for the ideal microclimate to produce a fine California sparkling wine illustrates his dedication to preserving and enhancing Roederers 200-year tradition of fine winemaking. He maintains close control of the Roederer Estate vineyards and winery, from introduction of an innovative trellising system, through aging of reserve wines and assembling the cuv?e, to labeling and distribution.
Unlike other champagne houses that have been bought and folded into mega-conglomerates, Roederer has remained a family-owned house.
Fr?d?ric Rouzaud, President & CEO, Champagne Louis Roederer Group Fr?d?ric Rouzaud, 38 and eldest son of Jean-Claude, was appointed President of Champagne Louis Roederer Group in January 2006.
